COMPETITION OVERVIEW
Open to young pianists ages 18 and under, the Steinway 2018 Piano Competition offers national recognition, professional critiques, and prize money of up to $1,000
Objectives of this competition
- Steinway Branding- Canada’s first amateur piano competition for youth under 18 years old by Steinway & Sons (not to be confused with the existing Steinway International Youth Piano Competition)
- Community participation
- Promote Piano Education and nourish promising musicians

REGISTRATION
a convenient online tool called “Acceptd” to manage communications with participants and schedule auditions. Please visit www.steinway.com/competition and click on the ‘register’ button and then go to the landing page and find on the left top to ‘start an application’.
Participants will be required to submit a $75 application fee though Acceptd, which will be sent to Steinway & Sons. Registration fees through Acceptd go towards the Acceptd management tool, certificates, medals, marketing support, national promotion, and adjudicator co-op (Steinway will not be making profit on the competition).
PARTICIPANT CATEGORIES:
Division I Ages 9 and under
Division II Ages 10-13
Division III Ages 14-18
PRIZES:
All contestants will receive a commemorative Steinway certificate of achievement. First, second and third place winners in each division will receive Steinway lyre medals.
First place winner will win cash prize:
Division 1: $400
Division II: $700
Division II: $1000

RULES AND REGULATIONS:
No extra fee will be paid to the contestants.
REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS
At least two pieces of contrasting style and period:
All applicants will be provided an opportunity (at least 20 minutes) to reheasal on the competition instrument before their audition. Please contact your PC to arrange rehearsal time.
There is a chance that judges will need to cut off performances. If a competitor misses their turn, they will have forfeited their chance to participate (no refunds).
